Med School Applications

Bar-Ilan students preparing for medical school, and medical research

Your personal statement, essays, and AMCAS application are essential to distinguish you from hundreds of other applicants to medical school, and can make the difference between being invited for an interview or immediate rejection.

At the Bar-Ilan PostBac PreMed program, you'll work one-on-one with our Program Director and premed advisory team to tailor your medical school application to make it the best it can be. They will help you fill out the AMCAS application, and will ensure that your details present you in the optimal light. Your application will include:

  • Coursework (both at Bar-Ilan and in college)
  • Work experience and extracurricular activities, including honors, publications, etc.
  • Clinical experience, including Magen David Adom (Red Cross) emergency medicine training
  • Letters of evaluation (including one by the Bar-Ilan Program Director)
  • List of medical schools to which you are applying
  • Personal Essay
  • MCAT results

Application Process and Accreditation

Bar-Ilan is accredited by the Council for Higher Education (, which is the sole body that accredits Israeli educational institutions. The accreditation is recognized all over the world including by all American universities.

AMCAS is a service that is used by most North American medical schools to do a preprocessing of medical school applications. Applicants fill out AMCAS forms online, submit their recommendations through them, and then AMCAS verifies the transcripts that American schools send to them. Because Bar-Ilan is not a U.S. university, our transcripts are not handled by AMCAS. However, our students' grades are entered into their system to be passed on to medical schools, which then request an original transcript directly from Bar-Ilan.

To ensure that our students will be able to be accepted by the schools of their choice, we contact all schools to which our students are interested in applying to explain that our students are graduates of North American colleges, and to request a written confirmation that our program will be recognized by them. More often that not, we receive a letter stating that they will deal with each student on a case-by-case manner. Below is a partial list of the medical schools whose deans have specifically agreed to consider our students:

  • Weill Cornell Medical College
  • The University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio
