Who can apply?

The Bar-Ilan Postbac Premed program is open to college graduates with a bachelor's (or higher) degree, in any field, from an accredited four-year institution, an excellent undergraduate academic record with at least a B (3.0/4.0 average), and commensurate SAT scores. We also accept applicants who wish to take some of our courses.

What do I need in order to apply?

Admission to the Bar-Ilan Postbac Premed Program is highly competitive. In addition to a good academic record, we'll look at your career history, your volunteer and extracurricular activities, and any health care experience. Letters of reference and essays will supplement your application. If we think you're a strong candidate, we'll arrange for an interview either in person, or by Skype-video.

When should I apply?

Admission to the Bar-Ilan Postbac Premed Program is on a rolling basis starting in September, with decisions made throughout the year. Orientation and classes start in the beginning of August. Applying early is recommended because there are many more qualified applicants than spaces available; we accept a maximum of 35 students to ensure an optimal, personalized experience for each and every student.

When will I hear about admission?

It takes our admissions committee a few weeks to review your application. If we think you're a strong candidate, you'll be invited to an interview. After your interview is completed, our admissions committee will review your candidacy and make a decision about your admission to the program within two to six weeks.

How do I apply?

First, make sure you have signed up for our e-mail list to ensure you receive timely information about the program—you can do this easily using the form in the “Find Out More” box at the top of any page on this website. Next, fill out the application form, review it carefully, and save the filled-out form to your computer. Then, you should email the form to us as an attachment, following the instructions in the form. Then, you should print, sign, and date a copy, and mail it along with a check for the application fee made out to Bar-Ilan University, to:

(IMPORTANT: The most reliable way to open the application form is to first save it to your computer, then open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader. To save it to your computer, right-click on the application form link above, then select [depending on your browser] "Save Link As...", or "Save Target As..." or "Save Linked File As..." or "Save Linked Content As..." and save the form to your desktop. Then, launch Adobe Acrobat Reader and open the saved file.

Note that you must use a laptop or desktop computer with Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.1 or later installed; you will probably not be able to open this PDF file on your phone, tablet, or other mobile device. If you don't already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, you can obtain it for free from Adobe.)

If, after following the above procedure carefully, you are still unable to open the application form, you may download a non-electronically-fillable version of the form here. This version should work on almost any computer. To use this version of the application form, print it out, fill it in on paper, sign it, and mail it to Bar-Ilan following the instructions at the end of the form.)

In addition to a signed, dated copy of your filled-out application form, please also submit:

  • Official transcripts from all university-level course work. Please have your institution(s) mail or fax the transcripts to the above address.
  • SAT (and if applicable, GRE and/or ACT) scores: Please send photocopies of your test results.
    To have your scores sent to Bar-Ilan, contact ETS (phone: (212)713-7789; web: and request that they send your SAT scores (and GRE scores, if applicable) to Bar-Ilan University — for SAT scores, use institution code XXXX; for GRE scores, use institution code 0967. Please note that this process can take several weeks, so be sure to start early. Only SAT and GRE scores are acceptable; there is no need to send LSAT or GMAT test results.
  • Two letters of recommendation (each in a sealed envelope where the seal is signed by the referee):
    • One academic recommendation letter from someone with whom you have studied, and
    • One recommendation letter from someone who knows you in some other capacity.
    Please use this letter of recommendation form for each of your letters of recommendation.
  • Your essay: On a separate sheet of paper please write an essay (about 500 words) explaining why after first majoring in a subject other than science in college you have decided to study medicine or a related discipline, and why you have chosen to apply to a program in Israel. We hope to get some insight into your personality from the essay that relates to your decision to pursue a medical career.
  • A (non-refundable) check in the amount of $100 made payable to “Bar Ilan University - Premed”

You will be notified by e-mail when your application is complete.

Our admission decisions are made on a rolling basis, so it's never too late to apply. But, early application is strongly recommended, as our class size is limited.

Checklist for Bar-Ilan Postbac Premed

  • You'll submit your application form, two recommendation letters, your essay, photocopies of your SAT (and if applicable, GRE and/or ACT) scores, and a $100 non-refundable application fee.
  • You'll ask your college(s) to submit your transcript(s).
  • You'll apply for financial aid.
  • We'll send you email when your application is complete.
  • We'll invite you for an interview (in person, or via Skype).
  • You'll interview with the Program Director.
  • You'll hear about admission.
  • You'll send $1,000 tuition deposit (not refundable) and completed acceptance forms to reserve your space in the program.
  • You'll apply for your Masa Israel scholarship(s) after you've submitted your acceptance forms.
  • You'll participate in a Skype or Google+ Hangout info session, and meet other students via our online forum.
  • You'll purchase your textbooks and any other supplies.
  • You'll finalize your financial aid decisions and arrange tuition payment.
  • You'll arrange for Israeli health insurance.
  • You'll arrive on campus for orientation, move into your selected housing, and get settled.
